EU Adopts 16th Sanctions Package on Russia: EU lists additional 48 individuals and 35 entities

  • Posted by: Pambos Kyriacou

On February 24, 2025, the European Union adopted its 16th package of sanctions against Russia, coinciding with the three-year anniversary of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The sanctions target critical sectors, including financial services, energy, military, maritime, media, and trade, and add 48 individuals and 35 entities to the sanctions list.

The package introduces expanded restrictions on Russia’s financial sector, tightens export controls on military-related technologies, and enforces stronger trade and transit bans affecting the energy and maritime industries. Additionally, the sanctions impose new limitations on Russian media outlets and target entities in third countries that support Russia’s procurement of dual-use goods and missile technology.
