AMLA Launches Public Consultation on Draft Guidelines for the Ongoing Monitoring of Business Relationships

  • Posted by: Pambos Kyriacou

The Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) has launched a public consultation on its draft Guidelines concerning the ongoing monitoring of business relationships, developed pursuant to Article 26(5) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1624 (Anti-Money Laundering Regulation – AMLR).

Ongoing monitoring is a fundamental component of the AML/CFT framework and requires obliged entities to maintain an up-to-date understanding of their customers and business relationships, including the continuous monitoring of transactions and activities to identify unusual or suspicious behaviour.

The draft Guidelines aim to provide practical guidance on the implementation of ongoing monitoring obligations and establish core principles applicable across both financial and non-financial sectors.

AMLA welcomes feedback from all stakeholders, including obliged entities operating within the gaming sector. The consultation is open until 3 September 2026 (23:59 CEST).

In addition, AMLA will hold a Public Hearing on the draft Guidelines on 2 July 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 CEST, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss the proposed requirements and engage directly with AMLA representatives. Registration is required and places are limited.
